We are RYBEL CUT, the Statement Label. We bring our Statement CUT THE BULLSHITto life by looking at all the ongoing bullshit in the world and taking out one piece of shit. This little piece of shit gets its very own Statement and is packed in an amazing campaign. Each of the campaigns therefore underline our overall statement and target socio-critical themes.
We combine the campaign with our Statement Fashion. So the most important carrier is of course: YOU! Every time you wear the Statement Jacket, you spread the campaigns message and carry the Statement out to the world!
Are you ready? Then grab your grandma’s hand, as you are going to change the world.
We want people’s attention for topics that pop up from time to time, are a perennial issue or currently important to get out. We really want you to deeply understand what is behind each campaign, what drives the campaign’s message and what is the overall story. So we love to share all insights on this page for you to read as a nice and good bedtime story. Take a deep breath and get ready for the first campaign:
DAMN! CANNABIS IS NOT EVEN LEGAL IN AMSTERDAM!
Cannabis was never really legal in the Netherlands; it was only tolerated. The so-called coffee shops are allowed to store up to 500 grams of cannabis in the shop and sell up to 5 grams per customer. However, the entire production and wholesale are illegal, so that a very special back door problem arose. As a result, there is no state control over the cultivation methods used and therefore no consumer protection exists.
Uruguay became, in 2013, the first country in the world to make it legal to grow, sell and consume cannabis.
Till 1872 THE CONSUMPTION OF CANNABIS WAS COMPLETELY UNREGULATED
After 1872, Kaiser Wilhelm issued the regulation directive that the sale of drugs and chemical preparations were only allowed for distribution in licensed pharmacies. This was till 1929, when the Narcotic Act took place and banned the cultivation, trade, consumption and purchase of cannabis and hard drugs.
TONS OVER TONS, BUT HOW MUCH EXACTLY?
Cannabis is the most widely consumed illegal drug in Germany and worldwide. Statics assume that between 200 and 600 tons of cannabis are consumed in Germany annually, but there are no official figures due to its illegality.
Rastafarians are legally allowed to possess cannabis in Italy due to it being a sacrament to the religion.
Shakespeare smoked pot – there is evidence that Shakespeare, the famous playwright and poet, was a fan of the beautiful green plant.
A CHANCE FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT, OH YES, FINALLY!
The German federal parliament decided a major change in early 2017. Since March 2017, seriously ill people can obtain cannabis on prescription. The five common diagnoses for which German patients receive exceptional licenses to buy and own medical cannabis are chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, ADHD, tourette syndrome and depressive disorders. According to a representive survey by infratest dipma on behalf of the German Hemp Association, a majority of 82 percent of the German population is in favor of easier access to cannabis as medicine. Majorities in politics such as the Union (76%) and SPD (85%) also support changes in the existing regulations in case of illness.
ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, CANNABIS ALL THE SAME HEALTH RISK?
To date, there has not been a single confirmed death from cannabis use. In contrast to cannabis consumption alcohol can be linked directly to deaths. According to experts, 202 people die every day in Germany from the consequences of alcohol consumption, mostly in combination with the risk factor smoking. That alone results in almost 74.000 deaths a year and three million deaths worldwide. Side effects arising from regular and even unregular consumption of alcohol can result in impairments and diseases of the liver, stomach, esophagus and other organs.
Bob Marley was buried with his red Gibson guitar, a Bible open to Psalms 23 and a cannabis bud.
In 1976, an art student changed the Hollywood sign to read „Hollyweed“ after the passage of state law decriminalizing cannabis.
SOMEWHERE LEGAL, BUT WHERE?
Canada is the first G7 nation among Uruguay, South Africa and a total of eleven U.S. states that took the step to line up to change the status quo. In the past six years, all of them have said goodbye to the cannabis prohibition.
Small baby steps
Since 1994, the possession of narcotics is no longer subject to criminal prosecution if it’s is only acquired and owned in small quantities for occasional self-consumption and only if there is no public interest in law enforcement. The Narcotic Act was then supplemented by refraining from persecution. Unfortunately, to this day there is no uniform federal regulation that specifies how much a “small quantity” actually is and at what point there is a “public interest in law enforcement”. The corresponding rules of the federal states differ considerably.
Beer & cannabis are COUSINS! Beers hops are in the same family of flowering plants as cannabis. We are family.
Cannabis is the most widely used illegal drug in Germany and worldwide. People are being prosecuted and sentenced for choosing cannabis instead of alcohol or tobacco. Till today, there has been not even one single confirmed death caused by cannabis. Alcohol and smoking in contrast cause millions of deaths every year worldwide.
Another problem that arises from the illegality is the black market with billions in sales. It is a huge side market with no regulations, control or consumer protection in any way. And no regulations mean that:
NO ONE KNOWS WHERE THE STUFF COMES FROM AND WHAT IS INSIDE (IMPURITIES, EXTENDERS?)
THE THC CONTENT IS NOT CONTROLLED AND THERE IS NO CONSUMER PROTECTION IN PLACE
NO TAXATION WHICH COULD, IF LEGALIZED, RESULT IN A GREATER INCOME FOR SOCIETY
EASY ACCESS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE.
But some good measures happened as well, as in 2017 the government finally took the step to legalize cannabis for medical treatment. But a limited access, a long bureaucratic process and high costs are the problematic results. Even German political parties in higher ranks such as the UNION and SPD advocate easier access to cannabis as a medicine.
WE, RYBEL CUT, CALL FOR ACTION!
We do not want to play down the (excessive) use of cannabis, but we require an alternative to the complete ban. We want people to overthink the status quo and to be informed enough, to generate their own opinion based on facts. There is neither right or wrong, nor now or never. But getting the topic back into focus will stimulate discussions and that is exactly what we are striving for.
WHAT WE DEMAND:
#1 Legalization of Cannabis and it’s separation from chemical drugs
#2 A regulated market with consumer and youth protection, controlled cultivation method and distribution
#3 Taxation in order to reinvest into society
#4 Less bureaucracy and easier access to cannabis as medicine for people who are suffering from serious illness
THE PROHIBITION OF CANNABIS DOES NOT PREVENT THE CONSUMPTION BUT ONLY WORSENS THE CONDITIONS FOR THE USERS! SORYBEL CUT TAKES A STAND AND SAYS:
